Free Online Screen Recorder

Record your screen directly in the browser with no software to install. This tool uses modern browser APIs to capture your entire screen, a specific application window, or a single browser tab. You can optionally include system audio, microphone narration, and a webcam overlay to create professional-looking recordings for tutorials, presentations, demos, and more.

How to Use This Screen Recorder

Choose your recording options: toggle system audio capture, microphone input, and webcam overlay. Click the "Start Recording" button and select which screen, window, or tab you want to share. The recording begins immediately. Use the pause button to temporarily halt recording and resume when ready. Click "Stop Recording" to finish. Preview your recording in the built-in player, then download it as a WebM video file.

Webcam Overlay

Enable the webcam overlay to add a picture-in-picture camera bubble to your recording. This is ideal for tutorials, presentations, and reaction videos where viewers benefit from seeing the presenter. Choose from four corner positions (top-left, top-right, bottom-left, bottom-right) and three sizes (small, medium, large) to place the overlay where it works best for your content.

Audio Options

System audio captures the sound from the shared screen or tab, which is useful for recording application demos, video playback, or music. Microphone audio records your voice for narration and commentary. You can enable both simultaneously to create recordings with full audio context. Audio tracks are mixed together automatically.

Privacy and Security

All recording and processing happens entirely in your browser. No video data is uploaded to any server. The recording is created locally using the MediaRecorder API and stays on your device until you choose to download it. Your screen content, audio, and webcam feed are never transmitted anywhere.

Supported Browsers

This screen recorder works best in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and other Chromium-based browsers. Firefox supports screen recording but may have limited system audio capture. Safari has partial support. For the best experience with all features including system audio and webcam overlay, use Chrome or Edge.

Frequently Asked Questions

What format are recordings saved in?

Recordings are saved as WebM files, a widely supported video format that works in most modern browsers and media players. You can convert WebM to MP4 or other formats using free video conversion tools if needed.

Is there a recording time limit?

There is no artificial time limit. Recording duration is limited only by your available device memory and disk space. For very long recordings, ensure your device has sufficient resources.

Why is system audio not available?

System audio capture requires browser support and depends on what you are sharing. It works best when sharing a browser tab in Chrome. Sharing an entire screen or application window may not include system audio on some operating systems. Microphone audio is always available as an alternative.

Can I record just a specific area of my screen?

The browser's screen sharing prompt lets you choose between your entire screen, a specific application window, or a browser tab. You cannot select a custom rectangular area. For region-specific recording, consider sharing a window resized to your desired dimensions.

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs locally in your browser. Your recording is never uploaded to any server. The video file is created on your device and stays there until you download it to your chosen location.
